Below are questions that single moms have asked us and we thought you may have similar questions so we wanted to provide you with the answers.  If we havent answered your questions please feel free to join our forums and ask other single moms their or if the question is specific to our site please email help@singlemotherresources.com  and we will try and get back to you  as soon as possible. 

Question 1:  I'm a single mother in need of financial assistance so I can go back to school, are there any sites that can help me with obtaining a grant?

Question 2:  I'm a mom and I just left my husband and I need a place to stay.  I am willing to share a home with another single mother.  However, I don’t want to move and disrupt my child’s life anymore than it already has been.  Where can I find someone in my area that is looking for the same thing?

Question 3:  Help, I am struggling with my finances, I am on the border of going into debt!  I am having trouble balancing all my expenses and bills and need help creating a budget.  I want to be able to provide better for my son.

Question 4:  I feel like I have nowhere to turn but bankruptcy. I don't want to do that- so I'm searching for help. I am glad there's a website devoted to the single mom. I hope I find something to help me get back on solid ground. My daughter deserves something better than what I'm giving her at the moment. Any suggestions?

Question 5:  I am 19, I work full time, I have a 2 year old at home, and I am a student.  I am on my own, and getting very little help from my family.  I have no money for diapers and very little for food. I am trying everything I can to get help and to make more money. But I am stuck in this position. I have finally gotten to my breaking point and I have to ask for advice. I feel like I am working all the time and it just seems like it is getting worse. If you have any advice PLEASE HELP!!!!

Question 6:  I am a single mother with a 1-year-old daughter whose father committed suicide before she was born. I am a full time student and work for a minimum wage job making 6.25 an hour and I have bills and more bills. I need some kind of help. Can you all do that for me?

Question 7:  The biological father of my baby has had nothing to do with my pregnancy until now, when I have 3 weeks left, and he is saying he wants to get a DNA test done. My question is, what rights does he have?

Question 8:  I need help.  I am a single mother and I need help dealing with the stress of it all.  I work two jobs so I hardly ever have any time to myself.  I want to know if there is anyone out there that is struggling like I am or if there is any help for me.

Question 9:  I had all these dreams for myself when I was younger.  I thought I was going to be able to get a great job, travel the world.  Now I feel like I am stuck.  I can’t seem to get ahead with my finances.  I feel like I can’t make or save anymore, that I just keep using it to pay my bills.  I need help.  Is there still hope of getting ahead?

Question 10:  Working all the time and raising a child on my own makes me feel like I am not giving my child all the time he deserves.  Do you have any helpful hints for dealing with both a full time job as well as being a great mother to my child?

Answers:

You are all so brave for trying to make the best life possible for you and your child.  There are plenty of resources available for you to utilize in your search for a better life. 

Our site provides articles on topics for financial and emotional assistance.  There are articles available for you that have tips on how to create a budget, how to avoid bankruptcy, as well as still being able to achieve your dreams on a fixed income. 

We offer emotional assistance by providing tips on how to juggle a career and raising a child, grieving the loss of a loved one while still having to raise your child on your own, dealing with loneliness during the holidays, as well as the best and worst moments of motherhood.

There are message boards available on our website.  These can be used to gain further help with budgeting, help with gaining scholarships and grants, and other general financial questions.  We also provide message boards devoted to help with making sure your child is happy, making sure you are happy, and how to deal with new relationships.  There are other mothers out there that are in similar positions.

If you can’t find assistance on our site, please pursue other options.  There are many websites and resources available to help each of you.

For the students looking for financial guidance, there is www.studentfinancialguide.com.  They offer advice on getting into college, the years during college, and steps for finding a job after you graduate. 

For help with getting grants and scholarships for going back to school, try either www.grants.gov or www.careersandcolleges.com.  These are great resources to utilize in trying to get help to go back to school.

If you are looking to find another single mother to help share housing expenses, I would suggest visiting www.craigslist.com to find other single mothers in your area that are also looking to share a house.  They also provide information on a variety of other events and jobs in your area. 

In the situations where you may be struggling with different issues concerning the father of the child, I would recommend talking to you local District Attorney and finding out what rights you have, as well as the rights the father may have, in your area.  You can also visit www.50states.com to learn more information about the laws and other resources in your area.
